Accountability Team

As was mentioned in the book, “Gentle Savage Still Seeking the End of the Spear”, we are forming a team to appropriately develop and carry out projects that will be an inter-cultural and interdependent composite fulfillment of Menkaye’s vision for his people and the Waorani tribe at large.

The formation of our team is still in its embryonic stages, as the concept is still relatively new, but as of now, we have three members who are from the United States, and will have three from the Waorani tribe who will contribute to the decision-making process and the implementation of any developmental plans directed toward the Waorani people and the intentional changes that are mutually approved for consideration.

From the United States our representatives are: Dr. James Yost, (anthropologist and life-long friend of the Waorani People); Chet Williams (currently serving among the Waorani as a missionary); and Tim Paulson (translator and promoter of “Gentle Savage Still Seeking the End of the Spear”).

As an Ecuadorian representative of the Waorani People, Gilberto Menkaye Nenquimo will serve initially until the other two Wao members have been unanimously chosen.

Our team will function primarily as an accountability check and balance, but will also confer together to assure that the leadership of the tribe is in agreement with, and completely endorses whatever plans are being formulated, and whatever projects are being suggested or requested by Wao elders.
