Really?

There are many, many things going on in our world today. Things that most people don’t know anything about. On this page I will be posting things that are happening that I think we all should know about. If there is anything you think should be included please send it to me via my Contact Page.

These are some of the articles I wrote but never published.

Funny how, years later, they still apply.

America is in serious trouble.

This is from 2015

I have watched snippets of the republican debates and it’s sickening to think that many Americans are still not seeing the BIG PICTURE when it comes to this, and all other presidential elections. I still don’t understand how and why we are still using the Electoral College (which is really not a college at all) to elect our president. There are well over 140 million registered voters in America. If you are one of them then you should know what the Electoral College is. If you don’t then you really should ask somebody. I think it should be abolished. But, I’m just one man and this has been going on for a long time. Those of you who know what it is should ask yourself, why should I have to ‘vote’ for somebody else to vote for me? That is the bottom line purpose of the electoral college. This is basically how a U.S. President is elected. On election day registered voters cast their votes for the person they want to be president. This is done as a unit. The entire country’s votes are tabulated on that day. Then it gets weird. You would think that after all the votes were counted the winner would be the one with the most votes, the majority votes, right? Wrong! That’s the way it works in most countries but not in the good ole U.S. This is only the start of a more confusing process. A process that only happens with the U.S. presidential election. Other elections like that of the mayor, commissioner, even governor are all ‘one election, one vote, majority win’ type elections. Which is the way it should be in a democratic society. And that’s the way it is in America except when it comes time to elect someone to the highest office in the land.

After the votes are counted the results are separated and renamed. The majority votes, the ones that decide the winner in all elections but the U.S. presidential election, are then called the ‘popular’ votes and a funny thing happens, all fifty states break off from the union and the votes from each state are counted to see which candidate got the majority, oops, I meant the now, popular’ vote for each state. Next, whoever wins the ‘popular’ vote of that state is ‘supposed’ to get ALL of the electoral votes for that state.  Confused yet? Okay, let’s keep going.

There are two little problems with the last process. You noticed that I said ‘they were supposed to get all of the electoral votes for that state’? Well, that’s exactly what I meant. Even though the state popular or the majority of the voters want their electorates to vote for candidate ‘A’ the electorates don’t have to vote for candidate ‘A’ if he or she don’t want to or don’t like that candidate. And there is another small problem with that process, the states don’t share the same number of electorates. Some have more some have less. Is that really fair?

Then, those 538 electorates have the ‘real’ presidential election in private. And the candidate who gets 270 votes wins the presidency, even if the original majority vote of the country is for the other candidate. So, basically what is happening is that 270 people get to override the wishes of over 140 million…..if they want to…. or are coaxed to….. or are pressured to. Still think the Electoral College is a good deal for America?
